Mari Ito is a Japanese artist based in Barcelona, whose work explores strong emotions such as desire and rage in vivid floral compositions that subtly address the Japanese aversions to outward expressions of feeling. Her humorous renderings of budding flowers with human-like faces illustrate her perennial interest in the seeds of desire, and the egg-shaped motifs that dominate many of her compositions resemble duplicating cells and evoke a sense of fecundity.

Trained in a traditional form of Japanese painting known as “Nihonga,” Ito’s artwork also references kimono designs and ikebana, a Japanese style of flower arrangement. Ito uses bold colors, delicate line-work, and flattened perspective in her work, which is infused with the vivid light of her adopted home of Barcelona.

For this collaboration we are merging several of her artworks with our California-made wooden skate decks.

These are a Limited Edition Set. No more than 50 triptychs will be produced.
